The insert though it looks sever is comfortable once broken in. For the past few years I have worn ecco's and although they comfortable they are not as supportive as these shoes. The footprints insole is nearly the same as the classic Birk insole, except slightly subdued (to me it feels kinda like birks once you've worn them a year or so).
